Why I made this
I almost did not get to say goodbye.
When I had my second child, something went wrong in the delivery room, and for a while it looked like I might not be coming home.
In the weeks before the birth I had done all the sensible things. I wrote my will. I sorted the estate, the guardianship, the paperwork that decides who gets what.
But lying there, the clearest thought I had was a simple one: I had left my children nothing of me. No letter, no voice, nothing in my own words for them to hold onto.
I came home. Most of us do. But that thought never left me, and I kept meeting people carrying the same one: a parent, a grandparent, anyone with something they meant to say and kept putting off.
So I made Forever Letter. Write the thing you keep meaning to say while it is still easy to. We keep it safe and give it to the people you love on the day you choose, even years from now. You may never need it the way I almost did, but if that day ever comes, your words will already be waiting.
